Figuring out how it will go

Three days of meetings and tours as arranged by the park. So much information! I’ve been to the installation site 3 times in 3 days, toured Quincy above and below ground, took in a sunset from McClain, picked agates, combed through historic photographs, met a ton of interesting people and made plans, lots of them.

From where I stand now, this is what it looks like. I have a day or two of rest when I finally get home (more on that later). I am going to create a site map to get very specific on where our placement will be for the 4 figures I plan to create. This will allow me and the park maintenance and authorities to prep the sites for our ballast pads. I need to create a more concise plan for the public outreach I am obligated to do. I also need to finalize the designs, taking my initial sketches to the digital final designs for approval and cutting. Then we can plan the installation dates. I will need to buy tickets and get accommodation in the Keweenaw again in the end of August. There are so many smaller pieces to this project when I break it down into steps. It’s a little overwhelming again looking at what I have on my list of things to do.

Now back to the get home part… Nothing like going from the North Shore to the East Coast all to get to the West Coast. Our booked flight was to good to be true, I knew it! First flight was delayed due to a hydraulic leak, so transfer to another airport an hour away. Then fly from Escanaba to Minneapolis to Atlanta (!) to Spokane. Only 9 hours later than anticipated. Then on to the 3-hour drive home. Zeb and I took turns driving across US2 - trading off when the straight road lined with wheat fields would make us go cross eyed. My own bed has never felt so good. I’m sure I have said that before, but I could certainly use some extra hours to catch up before the work week rushes in.
