Imagine South Wenatchee

In 2015, I was contracted to participate in the Imagine South Wenatchee project. The city streetscape plan was centered in the neighborhood around Methow Park. Goals for the project included to improve walkability of the neighborhoods, build pride in the community and stressed integrating with the ideas and values within the neighborhood.  Partners in the project were the City of Wenatchee, Trust for Public Land, Parque Padrinos, and the American Institute of Architects. I was hired as a sub-contractor to create a series of street banners based on themes identified at a series of community input gatherings at the community center.  At these gatherings we facilitated a papel picado or paper flag art project amongst the people from the neighborhood.  I took their themes and refined them to a series of designs representing the values of the neighborhood as a whole.  These designs were cut from aluminum and powder coated to create a lasting flag for the new light poles placed throughout the neighborhood. The banners were installed in 2016 and extended the length of another block in 2017.
