Nest

This bird’s nest was made at the request of the Trust for Public Land in 2018.  It was created as part of the Leavenworth Spring Bird Fest. The event was held on Mother’s Day in Methow Park in Wenatchee to kick off the park’s renovations and to introduce Bird Fest to a new neighborhood audience. The bird nest is constructed of mostly dogwood and willow branches woven over a framework of steel rebar.  There are some recycled climbing ropes woven in as well. It was made over the course of a week or two with the help of a number of friends. I enjoyed making the piece but was most thrilled when it was installed in the park for the daylong event.  Families were able to climb into the Nest and take photos while sitting inside.  After the initial event the Nest sculpture was moved to the Wenatchee River Institute at Barn Beach Reserve.  On display there, it is paired with an oversized raven sculpture made by my friend Catey Luna.
